For the 8th year in a row IPCA’s annual Essay Competition attracted numerous high quality submissions from law students, articled clerks, trainee lawyers and newly qualified lawyers residing in the Caribbean (including any country bordering the Caribbean Sea). This year’s topic was: “The Role of Intellectual Property in Empowering Caribbean Athletes and Sports Organizations: Legal Perspectives on Trademarks, Image Rights and Licensing”.
Thanks again go to IPCA’s Education and Training Committee who organise the event and to the three judges from three different Caribbean countries. After much discussion and consideration it was decided that the First Prize of US$2000 should go to Solange Joseph, a student at Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad & Tobago. Solange was also last year’s Runner-up. Click here to read her essay.
Brian Leacock was the 2025 Runner-up, a position which carries an award of US$1000. Brian is a student at Eugene Dupuch Law School in The Bahamas. Click here to read his essay.
Congratulations go to both of these exceptional scholars for their insightful and well-researched essays on such a thought-provoking subject.
The title for IPCA’s 2026 essay will be announced soon as IPCA continues its aim of promoting IP rights in the Caribbean.
